Overview
-
The PTBLA separates coaching activities and coaching decisions from
other business. Members experience two views of the organization during
each General Membership Meeting:
- Organization operations, administrative, funding decisions, overall
general planning and committee activities.
- Coaches' discuss their plans and issues relating to our teams in the field of competition.
Members in Good Standing with Voting Privileges are defined as:
- Parents or legal guardians with a registered player.
- Current on payment of player participation fee as outlined in the coupon book.
- Signed a code of conduct pledge.
Or
- Current Executive Board member serving
out their remaining term (the Executive Board member had a
participating player at the start of their term)
- Signed a code of conduct pledge.
Or
- Individuals without a registered player
that have paid membership dues, in full in the amount equal to a
player’s standard participation fee, one week prior to the next
scheduled general association meeting
- Signed a code of conduct pledge
In all cases, must be resident of Peters Township and at least 18 years old.
The current (2007-2008 school year) standard player participation fee is $700.
Therefore:
- Membership for parents/guardians of
players is $700 (per player) to be paid according to the coupon book
schedule received upon player registration
- Membership dues for a non-parent is
$700 to be paid in full at least one week prior to the next scheduled
general membership meeting (i.e., to vote on October 22, 2007 you must
have paid dues in full by October 15, 2007)
Payments
Our association has carefully based financial planning on
the number of players that have committed to participate. Delaying
payment casts doubt on these plans which could not only negatively
impact our program but also interrupt player participation. Please be reminded that:
- Players must have paid their non-refundable $140 plus November and December
registration fees ($420) to participate in tryouts and indoor practice which take place in February.
- Players must have paid their full $700 registration fee
by March 1st to participate in any tournament or regular season games.
Refunds
The $140 non-refundable registration is not refundable. All other fees are refundable provided they are not part
of an expended cost to the PTBLA until March 1st. After March 1st, no
refunds are available.
- Equipment costs for players (Helmets, jerseys and
shorts) are non-refundable after the PTBLA purchases items for a
player. These items are the property of the player.
- Injury: Injured players will incur their
share of coaching and indoor practice costs dated from the season's
start (September 1st) until their time of injury. All cases will be considered on an individual basis.

Responsibility and Accountability
This org chart shows the flow of
responsibility and accountability. While the coaching staff reports to
the Executive Board, in turn accountable to the membership, neither the
Board or membership has a voice in the selection of players for teams.
This is the sole responsibility of the coaching staff, overseen by the
Varsity Head Coach.
Members have an avenue to voice concerns to the coaching staff through
Team Counsel. Three Team Counsel officers work together as liaisons between
coaches and parents to resolve personal conflicts that may come about.
If Team Counsel considers the issue to be systemic, they may involve the
Executive Board to add or revise policy.
Organization Documents
Committees
While the Executive Board's role is to control funds, govern policy and
oversee committees, the committees own the power base of the organization.
Each committee has a "chair" which is the authority of the group.
Some committees are democratic, some are not.
Each committee has a page to explain its mission, activities, membership
and plans:

General Membership Meeting
General Membership meetings are open to the public. They are scheduled
on the third Monday of each month when school is in session, except
for the month of December. The meetings begin at 7:00pm in Room
B266 at the PT High School.
For those involved in the PTBLA program as a parent, coach, or player, a Code of Conduct
will be outlined. The PTBLA will encourage good sportsmanship and
fair play. Each PTBLA coach or site supervisor will be totally
responsible for the conduct
of himself, his
players and his respective spectators. Absolutely no abusive or
vulgar language will be tolerated and could result in penalties.
Un sportsman-like conduct or disrespect for the referees will not be
tolerated as well. Both players and coaches will
refrain at all times, from abusive and unwarranted disruptions.
Parent & Coach Conduct of Respect:
It is imperative that parents, at all times, conduct themselves in a
proper manner. No swearing or harassment will be permitted.
This Code of Conduct includes, but is not limited to practices, games,
tournaments, meetings, team events, executive board meetings, and all
correspondence whether paper or electronic. In the event conduct
is not acceptable, the PTBLA Executive Board may take disciplinary
action that could include suspension from the program. No coach
or spectator shall at any time use signs, gestures, degrading personal
comments, or any act, which will reflect unfavorably upon opposing
coaches, players or spectators. PTBLA encourages and requires
good sportsmanship and respect from all its participants. The
PTBLA will enforce this policy to the maximum.
Parents & Coaches Code of Conduct
- Do not force an unwilling child to participate in sports.
- Remember that children are involved in organized sports for their enjoyment, not yours.
- Teach your child that hard work and an honest effort are often more important than victory.
- Help your child
work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship in every game.
Your child will then be a winner, even in defeat.
- Do not ridicule your child for making a mistake or losing a game.
- Set a good example. Children learn best by good examples.
- Applaud good plays by your team and by members of the opposing team.
- Do not publicly argue referee judgment.
- Recognize the
value and importance of coaches, referees, officials, parents and board
members, and give them their due respect. Without them, there
would not be the PTBLA.
- Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth sporting activities.
- All
parents/guardians and Coaches must confirm their agreement to the PTBLA
Code of Conduct and Sportsmanship Pledge by signing the PTBLA Parent & Coach Participant Sportsmanship Pledge.
Player's Code of Conduct
- Play for the fun of it, not just to please your parents or coach.
- Play by the rules.
- Never argue with or complain about the referee calls or decisions.
- Control your temper and most of all; resist the temptation to retaliate when you feel you have been wronged.
- Concentrate on playing lacrosse and on affecting the outcome of the game with your best effort.
- Be a good sport by cheering all good plays, whether it is your team’s or your opponent's.
- Remember that the
goals of the game are to have fun, improve skills and feel good.
Don't be a "show-off".
- Cooperate with your coaches, teammates, opponents and referees.
- Be on time for Practices and Games and be committed to giving your best at all times. Missing practice will impact playing time in games.
- Be respectful of your coaches and teammates.
- Foul Language will not be acceptable at any and all team events.
- The
Peters Township Boys Lacrosse Association, inc. has a ZERO TOLERANCE
Policy in regard to drugs alcohol, and tobacco. Violations shall
result in appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including
dismissal from the program.
All players and their parent/guardian must confirm their agreement to the PTBLA Code of Conduct and Sportsmanship Pledge by signing the PTBLA Player’s Participant Sportsmanship Pledge.
