PTBLA History

The formation of the Peters Township Boys Lacrosse Association can be traced back to September of 1995. Following this initial Fall meeting, the ensuing months that followed were filled with numerous obstacles:

  1. Fielding a team with a sufficient number of player participants (virtually none with any past Lacrosse playing experience)
  2. Financial restraints
  3. Organizational formation and receiving School District consent
  4. Securing a coaching staff with Lacrosse knowledge
  5. Competing at a Varsity level of play.

Individuals who were "on the ground floor" and instrumental during this initial phase included:

  • Frank Lo Castro - President
  • Sandi Myatich - Vice President
  • Jerry Furman - Treasurer
  • Jan Smith - Secretary
  • Angela Daley
  • Bruce Dolinar
  • Patty Furman
  • Mike Haritan
  • Doris Nadalin
  • Carol Murphy
  • Denny and Fran Sullick
  • Donna Callen

The 1995/96 Peters Township squad elected to participate as a Varsity team in the Western Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association (WPSLA). An enthusiastic Head Coach; David Travis and his 23 warriors would find "a level playing field" non-existent in this first season. Winless in 14 attempts, this tight-knit group would provide the spirit and foundation for our current Lacrosse program and teams. The 1995/96 Lax Indians truly provided the basis for the "Commitment to Lacrosse Excellence" that we subscribe to today.

From the auspicious beginnings of 1995, the PTBLA and our teams have grown at a torrid pace. Today, Peters Township is now home to over 170 male Lax players from 4th to 12th grade! Our teams include a Varsity, Junior Varsity and a newly added Freshmen Team for 2006! Additionally, 2006 included 4 Youth/Middle School teams. Our Varsity program not only competes at the highest level within the WPSLA - Division 1, but is also regarded as one of the most respected team's throughout Western Pa.!

Additionally, our Junior Varsity, Freshmen and our Youth and Middle School squads continue to provide fierce competition to PT opponents while affording outstanding player participation and a positive experience for all members. In addition to those individuals previously mentioned, our organization has been blessed with the tireless efforts of many over these past 11 seasons. Our sincere thanks to Sas Argentine, Gail & John Johnson, Nelson Lazear, Barbie Lo Castro, Dick Thomas, Carolyn Yurkovich, Ed Peresie, Shari Giehll, Roberta Wodlinger, Gail Edmonds, Bob & Norma Bouchard, Hank Maser, Jan and Dave Dietz, Elisa Poole, Jan and Bob Kustron, Richard Recker, Candy Ingles, Mike and Mary Benya, Cyndi and Mark Hoskins, Frank and Lori Cicero. These individuals were some of the many wonderful people who have demonstrated their commitment and resolve laying the groundwork for the PTBLA's future.

Finally, in 1995, after 10 years at the PTBLA helm, President Frank Lo Castro elected to "step-aside". Frank now concentrates on the Youth and Middle School programs. A most capable Executive Board spear-headed by Bill Berry now oversees the premier Lacrosse program in the area!
